IETC, in partnership with ACCU and Kyoto University, organizes a week long
capacity building on disaster mitigation in July 2006
IETC, in partnership with the Asia Cultural Council for UNESCO and Kyoto University,
organized a capacity building workshop for more than 40 professionals from
various countries in the Asia Pacific region on the theme of "Participatory
Urban Risk Management" The workshop's objectives were:
- To provide
opportunities for participants coming from different fields and countries
to share their experiences and knowledge on sustainable urban
risk management issues
- To develop information dissemination methodologies
on assessment of urban risk, proactive risk education, decision making
for sustainable management,
and urban eco communities,
- To develop learning material and decision-making
tools for sustainable urban management to be used by local government
officials, development
practitioners including NGOs, local decision-makers, and local community
leaders.
To achieve the above three objectives, the workshop was structured along the
six thematic modules, namely: (a) risk assessment, (b) action planning, (c)
decision-making, (d) implementation management, (e) education for sustainable
development, and (f) information and communication management.
